9 to 5 JR., with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is an adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and empowerment in the Rolodex era has a message for today.

Although coworkers Violet, Judy and Doralee are as different as could be, they have one thing in common: their bully of a boss, Mr. Hart, makes their lives miserable. Together, they concoct a plan to liberate their office from his reign. In a hilarious turn of events, the trio gives their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

9 to 5 JR. is about teamwork and finding the courage to stand up for what’s right. Through Dolly Parton’s catchy score and a story filled with humor, young performers explore collaboration as a way to create change. This musical is a joyful reminder that you can take care of business with the support of those around you.

Acting Through Song Workshop

Open to ages 7-13

  • Saturday, March 14 from 10AM-11:30AM

  • Sunday, June 7 from 10:30AM-12PM

Instructors: Hunter Vaughn & Kathy Costa
$30 per student
at the OFC Creations Theatre Center (3450 Winton Place)

Students should bring a :45second to 1minute cut of a song that they like from musical theatre. They should bring three things: the sheet music (if available), the lyrics, and a pencil.

Take your performance to the next level! In this new workshop, young actors will explore the essential skill of acting while singing. Through interactive exercises and guided coaching, students will learn how to connect emotionally to their song, bring out the story in the lyrics, and make bold character-driven choices on stage. We know acting is important and we know singing is important – how do we put them together? What facial expressions, body movement, and bold choices will help bring the character to life and tell the best story?

Whether preparing for auditions, building confidence, or simply wanting to grow as a performer, this workshop with Mr. Hunter will give students the tools to combine strong vocals with authentic acting. Perfect for all levels and is a great way to sharpen performance skills in a fun, supportive environment. Students may participate in the workshop more than once and gain new skills and insight into the performing arts.
