Fall High School Teens:

Method Acting Class for Teens

Open to students ages 14-20

October 3 - November 28 on Mondays from 6:30PM-7:30PM (no class on Halloween) at the OFC Creations Theatre Center

Instructor: Jay Simmons; Tuition: $150

This group acting class for teens is designed to help students define their own creative identity in a group setting. Private coaching is very important, but group class lets students try and learn things in real time with fellow students. It provides a safe place to learn and grow from each others' strengths and opportunities for personal growth. The class will help students with character through acting games and exercises, to be able to identify emotions, the why, and overall understanding of the art. The use of a group setting helps to foster trust, empathy for other artists and unity. The class will be driven by the fundamentals of METHOD ACTING, using multiple techniques by associated practitioners, along with scene work from shows, monologue work, along with class based lectures and focuses, and more. The class is ongoing and designed to integrate students of different levels of theatrical backgrounds, addressing all levels and keeping all challenged. All skills are essential for any actor as well as any person, as we learn from each other. The focus is process vs. product, discovery, exploration and most importantly…the oftentimes forgotten art of PLAY!!

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right. Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza!

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.

Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables. The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.
